The Itaipu Dam

The Itaipu Dam is a hydroelectric dam on the Paraná River located on the border between Brazil and Paraguay. The name "Itaipu" was taken from an isle that existed near the construction site. In the Guaraní language, Itaipu means "the sounding stone".

8/20 Foz do Iguacu

In the morning, we went to Bird Park, which is amazing and all of the beautiful birds occurred in the movie Rio were in that park. There was also a funny thing happened in the park, three Brazil students asked me to take a picture with them, I felt happy and they were nice. We enjoyed there and after the lunch we went to the Iguazu Falls National Park. Iguazu Falls is located where the Iguazu River tumbles over the edge of the Parana Plateau, 23 kilometres up river from the Iguazu's confluence with the Parana River. 

8/19 Ethanol Visit - Most Interesting for Me

Its Sugar Production Rank the 5th in the World

It has its own sugarcane farm, everyday the workers transport sugarcane from farm to factory.

After sample test, the good quality sugarcane will be used to produce sugar and the others will be used to produce ethanol.

During these process, they collect the steam heat power produced to provide electricity for their factory.

This factory do not permit us to take picture inside.

8/17 Curitiba Museum Visit

After breakfast, we traveled to Curitiba. This is a beautiful city and always heard from professor and the other people. As we got off the bus, I saw a lot of young fashion people, felt this is a different city, which is less pressure and full of vigor. In the afternoon, we went to the Oscar Museum, where is a lot of interesting, moreover, I bought cute cup mats from the museum.

8/15 Florianopolis City Tour

A day for tour! After breakfast, we met in the lobby and visited the most beautiful scenery in Florianopolis.

8/13 Wind Energy Visit

It is the second day we went to wind energy visit located in Osorio. It's very cold and I get a fever but the wind farm is fancy, which deserves. After that we traveled back to Florianopolis.

8/11 Orientation and 1st Company Visit - Tractebel Energia

We Met in Florianopolis on 8/11 and had dinner together. Then this morning we went to our first company Visit - Hydroelectric / Thermal Energy Visit. Tractebel Energia develops and operates power plants, being also an active player in the energy trading activity. It hosts our first site visit in Brazil when we arrive. We listened a presentation there and had a tour through the factory. We saw the model of this factory. Got to know it serves electricity for 5 million people in this area.
